Halloween Brownies Ingredients

Just a few ingredients and you’re on your way to fun Halloween treats.

  • Fudgy Boxed Brownie Mix
  • Water, Large Eggs, Oil required from the instructions
  • Halloween M&Ms or any other mix (regular, Christmas, Easter)

Tips and Substitutions

Use a rubber spatula to spread the batter into the prepared pan. I find they work better than a wooden spoon.

If you read through the recipe, you’ll notice you don’t mix the M&Ms into the brownie batter. Rather, you partially bake the brownies, remove the pan from the oven, sprinkle the M&Ms over the batter, and return the pan to the oven to finish baking. This way, all of the M&Ms don’t sink to the bottom.

While this brownie recipe is delicious as is, mix it up from time to time. Try adding sprinkles, crushed Oreo cookies, white chocolate chips, or dark chocolate chips. You can omit the M&Ms or leave them, but if you leave them, don’t make too many additions.

Pressing some candy eyeballs in when you add the M&Ms would be fun too. For a finishing touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the top of the cooled brownies.

What can I serve with Halloween brownies?

The obvious beverage choice, for my family at least, is milk. Coffee, tea, or a specialty coffee drink, such as caramel coffee.

A scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side would be an additional treat.

How do you serve holiday brownies?

If you’re having a party, serve brownies on a tray or platter. They can be part of a dessert table.

You can also gift them in fun Halloween treat bags, tied with ribbon, to friends and co-workers.

How do you store Halloween brownies?

Keep these brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. You can layer them between pieces of parchment or waxed paper.

For longer storage, freeze them in a single layer then then transfer to an airtight freezer bag.

More Halloween treats

Party perfect treats include Halloween muddy buddies, mummy pretzels, monster marshmallows, and Halloween mummy brownies.

Can I use a homemade brownie recipe instead of a box mix?

Yes, but starting with a mix keeps things simple when you’re short on time.

Why do M&Ms crack when you bake them?

The extreme heat in the oven causes the candy coating to weaken and expand causing them to split or crack. One way to try and eliminate cracking is to freeze the candies before adding them to the top of the batter.

Can I make brownies ahead?

Yes, make this recipe up to one day in advance. The Halloween chocolate brownies will still be fudgy.
