Substitutions

  • Mix things up a bit by using peanut butter chips in place of chocolate chips.
  • While I used a devil’s food cake mix, you could use another chocolate variety, such as a fudge cake mix or chocolate mix.
  • Add in toffee chips or pecans, but no more than a cup of each. You don’t want to overload the dump cake with add-ins. I wouldn’t do more than two.

How Do You Serve a Dump Cake?

While it’s delicious as it, ff you choose to serve it warm, a scoop of vanilla ice cream would be a delicious accompaniment.

If you allow it to cool completely, a dusting of powdered sugar adds a bit more sweetness. Also, if you don’t like the looks of the chocolate chips, the powdered sugar will cover them up.

What Can I Serve with a Dump Cake?

A cold glass of milk, a cup of coffee, tea, or even hot chocolate is a good choice to serve with this dessert. If you’re looking for more of an after-dinner type of coffee, try Mexicocoa or caramel coffee.

More Chocolate Recipes

I am never one to shy away from a chocolate dessert. Take my Hershey pie, for example. I make it a few times a year because it’s easy, no-bake, and perfect for just about any occasion. Triple chocolate cake is another favorite because it’s easy, and like this dump cake, starts with a mix.

Then there are cookies. No one in my house ever turns down chocolate overload cookies or black forest cookies. Next to classic chocolate chip cookies, they are the most requested by my family.

What is a dump cake?

There are two types of dump cake. One is made with fruit with little to no mixing, and the other is where you dump all the ingredients into a baking pan, mix, and bake. This chocolate chip dump cake is the latter type.
