How do you make a BBQ chicken sandwich recipe?

You need two ingredients and your favorite hamburger buns. We like brioche buns or hamburger buns from our grocery stores bakery. This bbq chicken sandwich recipe uses shredded chicken and your favorite barbecue sauce. Cook skinless chicken breasts, skinless chicken thighs, or bone-in breasts however you prefer. I like to make slow cooker pulled chicken or use up leftover chicken to make these sandwiches.

Handy tip: Prepare Ahead!

Cook the chicken ahead and mix with the barbecue sauce. Store in an airtight container until ready to serve. Reheat as mentioned below, serve on a bun and dinner is ready in no time.

Make it a Meal: What can I serve with barbecue chicken sandwiches?

So many side dishes are appropriate with this recipe like garlic parmesan fries, baked beans, potato salad, and linguine salad are all delicious choices. But if you want something easier potato chips or corn on the cobb are also options. Share your favorite sides in the comments below.

Drink options include iced tea, such as strawberry iced tea, 3-ingredient limeade, blueberry lemonade, or beer.

What goes on a BBQ chicken sandwich?

It’s popular to put coleslaw on pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches, but I have friends who put raw red onion or sauteed onions, pickles, cheese slices, or pickled jalapenos for some heat on their sandwiches. Add a Hawaiian touch by topping the mixture with a pineapple slice.

How do you store shredded bbq chicken?

It’s best to store the shredded chicken after it’s been mixed with the barbecue sauce. That way it won’t dry out and you’ll have some barbecue chicken whenever you want a sandwich. Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

How do you reheat barbecue chicken?

I am not a fan of using a microwave to reheat anything but if you must, I suggest covering the mixture with a wet paper towel. It helps to steam it and will catch any splatter. I prefer to put the mixture in a pan or skillet over medium to medium-high heat, watching it closely and stirring frequently until the barbecue chicken is warmed through.
