Like so many things these days, getting Chinese take-out has gotten expensive. While my family loves Chinese food, I’ve never made it at home. I’ve wanted to but never found a recipe that would suit all of us since our tastes are so different.
While shopping at Publix, the Apron’s Cooking station was cooking this beef and broccoli recipe so I stopped for a sample. I knew this was the recipe I needed to try at home with some modifications.
It was a hit with the family and a recipe that will go into my meal plan rotation.
Ingredients for Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry
If you don’t usually prepare Asian meals at home you may need a grocery run for some ingredients.
- Fresh Broccoli Florets
- Vegetable Oil – canola oil is a good option.
- Top Sirloin
- Chopped Fresh Garlic
- Ginger Paste – this can be optional but adds great flavor.
- Stir Fry Sauce
- Chicken Broth – low sodium is ok.
- Brown Sugar – light brown sugar is what I used.
- Cornstarch
- Soy Sauce – use either light or regular soy sauce.
Equipment
- Large skillet or wok. I’ve used both so use what you have.
- Saucepan for cooking the crisp broccoli.
- Tongs or a spatula for tossing the beef and broccoli stir fry.
- Measuring spoons and cups.

Time Saving Meal Prep Tips
I like to prepare as much in advance as possible so I can throw this beef and broccoli stir fry together easily. I usually purchase a head of broccoli but the bagged florets were on sale so I thought I’d save myself some time. I still had to cut those florets into bite-sized pieces.
Slicing the steak when you bring it home from the store will also save time. If beef and broccoli stir fry is on a future menu, freeze the meat sliced and you’re ready to go.
It’s important to note to have everything prepared as this beef and broccoli stir fry comes together quickly. My whole family would agree that this version was as yummy as anything from take-out.
What can I serve with Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry?
My favorite side to serve with this broccoli stir fry recipe is fried rice with no egg, made with brown rice. These hibachi vegetables or spicy garlic edamame would also make great side dishes.
White rice or cauliflower rice would also be a delicious side for this beef broccoli stir fry.

How do you store leftover beef and broccoli stir-fry?
An airtight container is the best way to store any leftover delicious beef and broccoli.
What beef should I use in a broccoli beef stir fry recipe?
I used top sirloin steak. It’s an economical cut and is often on sale. If you can’t find sirloin, try flat iron steak, flank steak, or skirt steak. You want a tender beef cut into thin strips.

Thanks, Julia. I hope to experiment more soon.
Wow, that sounds pretty quick and easy! I’m not crazy about beef but I’m sure it would be just as nice with chicken and I love broccoli too, delicious combo!
Chicken would be a great substitution and I think would work well with the flavors.
