No holiday spread is complete without crinkle cookies. They are a Christmas staple in holiday tins and on cookie tables throughout the holiday season. I’ve taken this classic cookie, inspired by my strawberry lemonade cake mix cookies, to the next level by making them red and green for the holidays. Of course, you can make them any colors you want.

How can kids help make Christmas crinkle cookies?

My boys were in the kitchen helping me from a very young age. This crinkle cookie recipe is a great way to get the kids or grandkids to help. There are lots of fun things to do! Kids can:

  • Add ingredients to the mixing bowl.
  • Manage the stand mixer by locking it and adjusting the speed.
  • Scoop the cookie dough with a small cookie scoop and combine the two colors into a cookie dough ball.
  • Roll the two color cookie dough balls in the powdered sugar.
  • Place the cookie dough ball on the prepared baking sheet.

More Cake Mix Cookie Recipes

I love having a variety of cake mix cookies in my recipe box, especially at Christmas when baking time can be at a premium. Peppermint cake mix cookies, Christmas cookie bars, and chocolate-stuffed gingerbread cookies are all Christmasy.

Year-round cake mix cookie recipes include funfetti cookie bars, strawberry cake mix cookies, and lemon crinkle cookies.

More Crinkle Cookies

There’s something about a crinkled cookie with a powdered sugar coating. They’re so soft and not overly sweet. Some of my favorites are Mexican chocolate crinkle cookies, peppermint chocolate crinkle cookies, and ginger chocolate crinkles.

How to serve Christmas crinkle cookies

Milk is an obvious choice to serve with these Christmas cookies, but coffee, hot chocolate, or a gingerbread latte are all delicious as well.

These cookies are perfect for a holiday cookie tray or brunch table. Package them in clear bags and tie with festive ribbon for gift giving.

How do you store crinkle cookies?

You can store crinkle cookies in an airtight container for a few days at room temperature.

Can I use different colors?

Absolutely! Using pink and blue would be perfect for a gender reveal party or school colors for a graduation.

Why aren’t my cookies crinkling?

Usually, this happens when there’s not enough powdered sugar on the dough. Make sure the dough balls are thoroughly coated.

Can I freeze crinkle cookies?

I prefer to freeze the unbaked dough before rolling in the powdered sugar. Freezing baked cookies will result in the powdered sugar disappearing when they thaw. Roll the frozen cookies in powdered sugar and add a few minutes to the baking time.
