You probably have all the ingredients in your pantry except for the patriotic candies. All of the simple ingredients are readily available at your grocery store. I found the M&Ms at Target.
- Unsalted Butter
- White Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Eggs
- Pure Vanilla Extract – use a quality extract. I like Rodelle.
- All Purpose Flour
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Red, White, and Blue M&Ms
Equipment
If you bake regularly, you have the equipment to make red white and blue M&M cookies.
- Mixer – you can use either a stand or hand mixer. If using a stand mixer use the paddle attachment.
- Medium size bowl – for mixing the dry ingredients.
- Medium cookie scoop – you can use a small one but I like the medium for this recipe.
- Cooling rack – you’ll need 2 – one for the pan when it comes out of the oven and one for the cookies to cool.
- Parchment paper or silicone baking mat – for lining your baking sheets.
- Cookie sheets – line with parchment or a baking mat.

More Holiday M&M Cookie Recipes
There is a great variety of M&M candies available these days. Pastel for Easter, Christmas colors, and you can even order a specialty color mix in school colors. These Easter M&M cookies are easy, but you can also make M and M chocolate chip bars.
This skillet cookie is a fun and festive patriotic dessert.
This M&M Christmas cookie version starts with a cake mix and uses peppermint m&m candies and sprinkles.
If you find the Halloween mix of M&Ms, these Halloween cookies have both m&m candies and mini chocolate chips.
How do you store M&M cookies?
The best way to store cookies is in an airtight container. Cool them completely before storing them. I like to add a layer of parchment or waxed paper between layers of cookies to keep them from sticking. Store cookies on the counter at room temperature for 3 or 4 days. For longer storage keep them in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze them for up to 3 months.
What can I serve with M and M cookies?
Milk is the choice in my family but if you’re putting these cookies on a table with other patriotic desserts, you may want to offer tea and coffee.
Can you ship M&M cookies?
Yes! These red white and blue M&M Cookies ship well. I sent some to my college kids. I wrapped 2 cookies, flat sides together, in plastic wrap and place them in a gallon Ziploc bag.
