I was gifted a few large jars of honey from a local beekeeper, and some of it began to crystallize. While it’s easy to recover crystallized honey, it’s just as easy to transform it into sweet and smooth whipped honey. It’s a new condiment you can use just as you would use honey.

Why you’ll love whipped honey

  • Just one ingredient! It can’t be any easier!
  • Because there’s only one ingredient, honey, which doesn’t spoil, whipped honey doesn’t spoil either.
  • Whipped honey makes an easy hostess gift. Wrap the glass jars with pretty ribbon and a gift tag.
  • It’s versatile. Use whipped honey the same way you’d use regular honey. Drizzle it on biscuits, as creamy spread on toast or pancakes, and incorporate it into glazes or marinades.
  • Make as much as you need. I started with a cup of crystallized honey, but you can use more.

What does whipped honey taste like?

Whipped honey, also known as creamed honey, tastes like regular honey but with a smoother and creamier texture. Essentially, you are whipping air into honey, which makes it lighter and slightly less intense in flavor.

Tips and Suggestions

For the best results, and to save your sanity, you’re going to want to use a stand mixer with the whisk attachment. If you’re mixing this for 20 minutes, you want to be hands off.

Whipped honey can begin to separate or become grainy if it sits too long or is exposed to heat. This is due to natural crystallization and moisture content of the honey. If this happens, there is nothing to worry about. You can just whip it up again until you achieve the creamy consistency. If it’s too firm, gently warm it, but do not boil it. Then whip it with a hand mixer or stand mixer.

How do you serve whipped honey?

It’s the perfect addition to a charcuterie board. Whipped honey drizzled over cheese on a fancy cracker is a treat. Pair it with hot honey on the board for a flavor contrast. Swirl some into oatmeal or yogurt. Use whipped honey as a dip for apples or pretzels.

Serve it alongside warm baked goods such as biscuits, cornbread, or scones. It’s great on waffles and muffins too.

Whipped honey is an elegant addition to a holiday table and requires minimal effort. It makes the celebration feel special. Drizzle it over holiday ham or cinnamon rolls.

What kind of honey do you use to make whipped honey?

Raw honey that has crystallized is the best honey to use. You can whip liquid honey, the crystallization helps maintain the fluffy consistency over time.

What is crystallized honey?

Crystallized honey is honey that has solidified due to the separation of glucose from the liquid honey, which forms the crystals. It’s a natural process. Processed honey will crystallize at a slower rate than raw honey.

How do you store whipped honey?

Store it just as you would regular honey, at room temperature. I keep mine in the pantry where it’s a bit cooler.
