This gingerbread recipe if delicious as is but if you want to dress it up, sprinkle some confectioners’ sugar over the cooled loaf.

- Ground Ginger
- Unsalted Butter
- Boiling Water
- Large Egg
- Regular Molasses – this means unsulphered. You don’t want to use blackstrap molasses. I use the Grandma’s brand.

Mom’s Gingerbread Loaf

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ½ cup molasses
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350℉ and grease an 8½ x 4½ loaf pan and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. Stir to combine.2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground cloves, ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- In a separate bowl place the butter and add the boiling water, stirring to melt the butter. Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture and stir with a rubber spatula.1 stick unsalted butter, 1 cup boiling water
- Add the egg and molasses and mix until well combined.1 large egg, beaten, ½ cup molasses
- Pour the gingerbread mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Bake at 350℉ for one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool pan on a wire rack.
- Cool the gingerbread loaf in the pan for 15 minutes. Run a butter knife around the edge and turn loaf onto a cooling rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy.
