Maple Bacon Green Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 pound green beans, trimmed
  • ½ large onion, chopped
  • 6 strips bacon
  • ½ cup dried cranberries
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon salt, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, I use cast iron, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove bacon and drain on a paper towel lined plate.

  • Add chopped onion to the bacon grease in the same skillet and saute over medium heat until translucent.

  • Meanwhile, steam the green beans. Place about an inch of water in a medium pot and add the trimmed green beans. Cover and cook 5 - 8 minutes, stirring once. Remove from heat and drain.

  • Stir in the bacon, dried cranberries, maple syrup, salt, and pepper. Add the cooked green beans, tossing to combine. Heat through. Once heated, transfer the mixture to a serving bowl. Serve warm.
