OREO’s are my favorite cookie and I’m a purist when it comes to them. By that I mean I like the original flavor but with the extra vanilla creme filling in the Double Stuf variety. But when I got to thinking about what flavor I’d create for the My OREO Creation contest I honestly had no idea. I thought about it for days and came up with a few ideas, but I just didn’t feel any were “the one”. So many flavors have already been created. So my son and I headed to Walmart for flavor creation inspiration.
We came home with a few flavors hoping to spark a new idea. After tossing around ideas among the four of us we were still at a loss. One of my boys said to take apart one chocolate and one mint then press them together. Hmm…chocolate mint, not bad. Thinking along the same lines, my youngest said to do the same with chocolate and peanut butter. Again, not bad. But we needed something new.
Once I sat down to write this post more and more ideas starting coming to me. Maybe it was the selection of OREO flavors I purchased at Walmart surrounding me and my computer as I worked. Then it happened. The lightbulb went off. Birthday Cake! A flavor from my childhood. But not like the current birthday cake flavor. The birthday cake my Mom used to make every.single.year for me. At my request, of course. German Chocolate Cake! Oh that dreamy cake with the coconut pecan frosting. Doesn’t that just sound like the most decadent OREO flavor? Chocolate, coconut and pecans? I’m not sure OREO has ever done a variety with nuts. Maybe it’s finally time! So, there it is, my flavor. German Chocolate Cake!
Maybe all that thinking will pay off. Maybe I have the winning flavor. It was lots of fun to get the family involved. What flavor would you create? Try it and enter your flavor >> My OREO Creation
The grand prize is amazing: $500,000 and a trip to NYC with a behind-the-scenes look at OREO flavors. Three other tasty finalists will receive a $25,000 check and the opportunity to have an OREO cookie creation produced and available in the market for a limited time.
So grab the kids, your BFF or your significant other and head on over to Walmart to check out the OREO varieties available. Then dream up your new flavor. It can be a regular OREO, Double Stuf or OREO Thin. Whatever you want it to be.

Your idea of a German chocolate cake Oreo sounds fabulous – yesterday I also spotted a mocha Oreo – but like you, my daughter and I are partial to the original tho from time to time we like to get the “flipside” ones – chocolate + vanilla cookies sandwiched together. Thanks for the info on the contest – I had no clue it was going on! Good luck to ya!
