There is nothing more southern than pimiento cheese, it’s the pride of the south. It was a tradition in my home growing up in the south. While pimiento cheese is really easy to make from scratch, I’ve found that Price*s Original Pimiento Cheese Spread is an awful lot like my Mom used to make. So when you need a quick appetizer, pimiento cheese pinwheels are a delicious choice.

A tip about slicing the puff pastry. Use the sharpest kitchen knife you have and just slice through the pastry and pimiento cheese, don’t use a sawing motion. What I love about the convenience of Price*s Pimiento cheese is you can have all you want in your refrigerator, all the time.  There are so many things you can make with it, like a grilled cheese sandwich, add it to the top of a burger, mix it in to deviled eggs or serve it with pita chips or crackers as a dip.

When I first made these appetizers for my husband, who hails from Pennsylvania, he didn’t know what to think. He was stuck on the fact that peppers are involved and he thought they would be spicy. Not so. Price*s Pimiento Cheese spread has other varieties, which include a zesty jalapeño, but I assured him I would be using the original, which in my family, is traditional. These appetizers are a delicious bite. They are flaky and buttery from the puff pastry yet creamy and delicious from the pimiento cheese.

In addition to using pimiento cheese, my Mom used a lot of puff pastry. I use a lot of puff pastry too because it’s an ingredient my family loves. Interestingly she never put the two together. So I took two different family traditions and made a new one for my family. These cheesy apple sausage pastry bites are another favorite appetizer made with puff pastry.

My pimiento cheese pinwheels have only 2 ingredients making them perfect for any occasion requiring appetizers, such as a game day gathering, family movie night or a holiday party. The pimiento cheese melts into the puff pastry as it bakes. My recipe makes about 16 to 18 pinwheels. If you think you’ll need more, use an entire package of puff pastry and two tubs of Price*s Pimiento Cheese. You could even spice it up a bit and use the zesty jalapeño flavor in addition to the original.
