While many fall recipes use pumpkin puree, many also use pumpkin pie spice as well. So, I thought I would make my own since I had all the spices in my cabinet. Saved me a trip to the store, a little money and I’m using up my spices.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Use Up Spices – Ground spices should be replaced after four to eight months. Making homemade pumpkin pie spice uses up five spices in your pantry. It’s a better option than throwing them away.
  • Saves Money – If you have the five spices used in pumpkin pie spice, you’ve saved money on purchasing a new spice.

What spices do you need for pumpkin pie spice?

Five spice bottles and and an empty glass jar on a counter.

You need five spices to make it. If you have well well-stocked spice cabinet, you probably have all of them. I think this is the best pumpkin pie spice recipe because it’s heavy on cinnamon and that’s one of my favorite spices.

So, are you wondering where to use pumpkin pie spice other than in a pumpkin pie recipe? Add a little to a pumpkin smoothie, make pumpkin spice popcorn for movie night, add to your morning oatmeal, make a pumpkin spice milkshake, add some spice to your pancake or waffle batter, or make pumpkin spice ice cream. The possibilities are really endless. Just use your imagination.

How do you store pumpkin pie spice?

To store your newly made spice, put it in an old spice jar (and I don’t mean the men’s cologne) you’ve thoroughly washed and dried or in a small mason jar, as I did. Either way, be sure to label it so you know what it is!
