I really love the new Simple & Delicious Cookbook from Taste of Home. This recipe for Easy Cake Mix Bars is on page 332 but they are so easy and my kids loved them, I thought I would share them with you. This recipe is doing triple duty this week. My blogger friend, Maureen, at Red Cottage Chronicles does a feature on her blog called Taste of Home Tuesdays. Today is the first time I am participating but it won’t be the last. Taste of Home is one of the regular websites I visit when I’m looking for a particular recipe. I know I can trust the recipes because they are submitted by people like you and me who like to cook. I know their test kitchen tries all the recipes they publish giving me even more confidence that they will not only work, but be good, too.
Second, I’m trying to reinstate my 52 Week New Recipe Challenge so this is week 9’s recipe. Not sure I can catch up by the end of the year but I’ll try.
So, after my kids went back to school, I wanted to make a new treat for them when they came home “starving”. I was looking for really easy and also did not want to go to the store for any ingredients. I know, a tough bill to fill. So, I took to my preview copy of the Simple & Delicious Cookbook. This recipe spoke to me…easy, cake mix, white chocolate chips, jimmies. So I set off to make it. When my kids arrived home from school, “starving”, they were pleasantly surprised with their festive treat. These cake mix bars are also perfect for a birthday or holiday. They are so festive with the addition of jimmies. Mix up the jimmies (you may call them sprinkles), using red, green and white for Christmas or pastels for spring. I also think they would make a great base for an ice cream sundae.
