Why Mounds Candy Bar Bundt Cake is a Keeper

The first time I made this Mounds Cake recipe it was a hit. I wrote the recipe on a recipe card and tucked it in my treasured recipe box. I promptly forgot about it for a few years.

It wasn’t until I was talking with a friend that I was reminded of it. I thought it would be a delicious dessert for Easter. I usually make my Rave Review Coconut Cake but my family wanted a change.

What Ingredients do I need for a Mounds Bundt Cake Recipe?

  • Yellow Cake Mix Without Pudding – My favorite cake mixes are Betty Crocker.
  • French Vanilla or White Chocolate Instant Pudding – I’ve used both and both are fine.
  • Vegetable Oil or other neutral oil.
  • Water
  • Eggs
  • Sour Cream
  • Mounds Candy Bars
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Flaked Coconut
  • Confectioners’ Sugar

What equipment do I need to make a Bundt cake?

Since this Mounds Bundt cake recipe starts with a cake mix, the clean-up is easy. You’ll need a large mixing bowl and a hand or stand mixer, measuring cups, a cutting board, and a knife.

How do you make Mounds Cake?

  • Preheat the oven and spray the Bundt pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Combine the cake and pudding mixes with the eggs, water, and oil in the bowl of your mixer and mix on the mixer’s medium speed. Scrape sides of bowl as you go along.
  • Stir in the candy, chocolate chips, and coconut. When combined, pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake cake, cool, and remove from the pan. Cool completely and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

What Candy do I use for Mounds Cake?

For this cake, I used the regular size of Mounds candy bars. Plus, snack size is harder to find outside of the Halloween season.

At Halloween, the smaller candy bars are abundant. If you need to use up some Mounds Easter eggs from those baskets using them to make this Mounds Bundt cake would be a good option.

Tips and Substitutions

There aren’t too many substitutions I think you can make with this Mounds Bundt cake recipe. If you want to try something different here are a couple of ideas.

  • Instead of a yellow cake mix, use a chocolate cake mix. I would go with Devil’s Food.
  • If you try a chocolate version, you’ll need to swap out the vanilla pudding and use chocolate pudding.
  • Add finely chopped nuts. I would go with pecans, though almonds seem like an obvious choice.
  • Combine chocolate chips with a tablespoon of the dry cake mix. Toss to coat the chips. This will keep them from sinking in the cake batter.

What Kind of Pan Do I Need for A Mounds Cake?

A Bundt pan works best. I have a fair collection of Bundt pans but I love making this cake in my star Bundt pan. It is one of my favorite pans.

You can use an angel food pan if you don’t have a Bundt pan. I’ve not tried a sheet pan and since this cake has no frosting, I don’t recommend a layer cake.

While you could put a glaze on it a dusting of powdered sugar is all this cake needs. I also use this pan for my Apple Harvest Pound Cake with Caramel Glaze.

How do you serve Mounds cake?

This Mounds Bundt cake recipe is such an easy cake to make. Serve this delicious cake any time of year for special occasions or holidays.

When I serve Mounds cake, I like to offer coffee, tea, or milk.

More Recipes Made with Candy

Making recipes with candy is often popular around Halloween. It’s a great way to use up leftover candy. But cakes with candy are not just for Halloween, this adorable Easter basket cake is great for a crowd. Almond Joy cupcakes, Snickers poke cake, and triple chocolate candy bar cake are decadent treats.

Can you freeze Mounds Bundt cake?

Yes! Freeze the baked cake for up to 3 months for best results. Do not sprinkle the powdered sugar over the top of the cake before freezing. Wrap in plastic, then foil before freezing. Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Can you glaze a Mounds Bundt cake?

Absolutely! Use your favorite chocolate glaze or chocolate ganache over the top. Completely cool the cake before glazing. For something extra, sprinkle coconut flakes over the top.

    1. Yes, I think you could! It might be very rich though with the sweetness from the candy bars, coconut, and chocolate. I’d probably use chocolate pudding too. If you try it, please let me know how it turned out!
